When someone you love dies, there is so much to do and organise, it can seem overwhelming.
Anyone who has lived in the parish, or who has connections with St John's, is entitled to have a funeral at the church, or to have the funeral taken by the vicar or one of our ministers, usually at a local crematorium or cemetery chapel.
The cost of a church funeral is no more expensive than at a crematorium or cemetery chapel, and often considerably less. It is a good idea to discuss the options with your chosen funeral director, but if you want any advice, please complete our contact form or call the vicar on 0121 356 7998. At St John's we charge the standard Church of England fees for funerals which can be found here. Most of the fee goes to the central offices of the Diocese of Birmingham, with a smaller proportion going towards the funds of St John's, and the work we do here in Perry Barr. The vicar (or other minister from the church) does not receive a fee, as it is part of our usual parish duties. (Most ministers from other churches, and those who are independent funeral "celebrants", retain their own fees in full.)
