Funerals

When someone you love dies, there is so much to do and organise it can seem overwhelming.

Anyone who has lived in the parish, or who has connections with St John's Church, is entitled to have a funeral at the Church, or to have the funeral taken by the vicar or one of our ministers, usually at a local crematorium.

The cost of a church funeral is no more expensive than at a crematorium or cemetery chapel, and sometimes considerably less. It is a good idea to discuss the options with your chosen funeral director, but if you want any advice, please contact Revd Danny (vicar@sjpb.org.uk) or call 0747 500 5055. This link will also provides more detailed help.

At St John's Church we charge the standard Church of England fees for funerals - see below. Most of the fee goes to the central offices of Church of England Birmingham, with a smaller proportion going towards the funds of St John's Church, and the work we do here in Perry Barr. The vicar (or other minister from the Church) does not receive a fee, as it is part of our usual parish duties (this is in contrast to ministers from some other churches, and those who are independent funeral celebrants, who generally retain their own fees).
